This place is one of my favorite hot pot places! It's so interesting that they pour the broth on a thick stock of paper.. I'm also a big ponzu sauce lover (but a picky one) and theirs is the bestttt!
If you have the chance to be in Diamond Bar or Arcadia, I highly recommend you try this place out because their meat quality and broth will not disappoint. The Kobe Black Chuck literally melts in your mouth yummm -

We picked Paper Pot for a family celebration, and made a reservation for 10. This was the first time some of the members of our group had ever been to hot pot, and were confused by the ordering process and options, and it was extremely chaotic to say the least. Questions flying, minds changing, confusion all around. I've had this experience with groups before and the employees usually get noticeably annoyed. But the people here were SO incredibly patient and kind the whole entire time. I was really impressed. They answered all of our questions, helped make decisions, and just made the overall experience easy and enjoyable.
Somehow we all settled down, and everyone got the AYCE option. Good meat cuts, great soup bases. -

I've been hearing how Paper Pot shabu is on a lot of my friends too favorite shabu lists, so of course I had to come try it out and heard about the concept how to soup base is in a paper pot which I thought was pretty interesting.
I came during the afternoon and it wasn't too busy. We were seated right away. We didn't know they had an AYCE option during lunch time with about 6-7 different meat options. I usually don't eat red meat but I slightly cheated and decided to try out the meats here because it was some different meat options you don't see at usual shabu/hot pot places.
For $20.99 ayce option during lunch you're able to choose your own broth base; we decided to choose house special which is a Korean homemade spice and spicy yaki which is a mix of house spicy and sukiyaki wish is sweet and spicy. Both broths were very good and different in flavor, but I personally liked the house special base.
We tried the different meat options from lamb, bulgogi, lean cut, wagyu, etc. The bulgogi was defined something new to see in hot pot place, but I personally don't think it goes well with it. All the meat option were fresh, tender and great taste. This place is high in meat quality and also have good fresh veggies.
The service was somewhat on the slow side and rarely checked on us. We had to ask for our glass of water 25-30 minutes into eating...
But overall, food is pretty good. I see what the hype is all about, but I think service needs a bit more improvement. -

Honestly, the food is delicious but the service is why I would never come back. I used to eat here ALL THE TIME. Although the service was lacking and what others say about the owner is sadly true, the taste of the food was worth it to stay a loyal patron.
All that changed when I made a reservation at 6:30PM for a party of 6. When my friend arrived early at 6:20PM (10 mins early), she was told that our table was given away so we'd have to wait 1.5 hours even though we made a reservation. The owner was the one that approved this even though the girl I spoke to told him we had a reservation. WHAT THE HECK!?
Okay, cool. We went downstairs for hot pot at a new restaurant and it was delicious. Thanks for introducing us to this new place.
In summary, food is delicious but you're also taking a gamble on the service. -

Came for our Fridate and left satisfied! I love the concept of the actual paper pot, it was amusing to see how it worked and the broth didn't soak through. The meat quality was on point. You can tell the difference between high quality and low quality
meat and this one was definitely TOP NOTCH quality. Each pot came with a variety vegetable plate. They also have rice bowls and have a brown rice option! I got the spicy miso with the rib eye and i highly recommend it! It wasnt too spicy but it gave the meat a satisfying kick of heat flavor. I'd love to come back again!
